We are living in the ‘Information Age’. And inspite of having access to all the possible knowledge in any area at the tip of our fingertips, we seem to be clueless and unclear about so many areas in our lives.
Have you ever sat down to question why is this so?
This brings us to a very critical component of getting clarity and that is the habit and skill of questioning.
‘ASK and you shall RECEIVE’ is a popular saying which holds true for many.
Whether we need some financial aid, emotional support, social recognition, or self-evaluation, we just need to ask, we just need to seek.
We are living in the ‘Information Age, which means the age of the ‘Internet.’ In order to access the internet, we have to be connected to the right network and have the necessary permissions.
There are two modes of selection here – Manual and Automatic.
If we select the manual mode, we have to follow every step and complete it in order to move to the next step. If there is an error along the way, we stop and troubleshoot to identify the cause of the error.
If we select the automatic mode, we let the pre-programmed system do all the work and are not aware of the steps involved. Only when the internet is not connected, will we raise the alarm.
The selection of our parenting mode is also two-fold. We can choose the manual mode of selection or the automatic mode. Both the modes are connected to the same vision and goals we have as parents. The difference is our level of involvement, knowledge and awareness.
MANUAL MODE | AUTOMATIC MODE |
Awareness of every step involved | No awareness |
Troubleshoot and get clarity for every problem at various stages | Troubleshoot and get clarity when the final outcome is not achieved |
Knowledge of system dependencies | No knowledge of system dependencies |
Self-learning involved | No self-learning involved |
In both the manual and automatic mode, we can play our role as parents with the aim to nurture and grow our children to become resilient, happy, and independent adults.
They key component is how we choose to operate.
KEY TAKEAWAY:
Asking questions leads to clarity. At what stage do you ask questions plays a very important part in achieving the nurturing goals we set for our children.
These nurturing goals have a dependency on the child; however, the work is done by the parents. The more realistic clarity we seek, the better we can follow through and deliver in our role as parents.
